Well regarded for its medicinal purposes, gentian root is a herb derived from the root of a flowering plants in the Gentiana genus, which typically grows in the mountain climates of Europe, Asia, and the Americas. For thousands of years, gentian root has been traditionally used to fight inflammation and swelling, treat infected wounds and serve as a poison antidote.
In current times, gentian root is used as a digestive tonic to stimulate stomach, liver, and gallbladder function, improve appetite and relieve bloating, diarrhea, and heartburn. Gentian root may also help with various other health concerns such as arthritis (joint inflammation) and sinus (nasal congestion).
