EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) is a type of omega-3 fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation and research has shown that it provides cardiovascular benefits too.
Common food sources include deep sea fish (e.g. mackerel, salmon), shellfish, fish oil and some types of algae. However, similar to DHA, some individuals may dislike fish or be allergic to shellfish. These foods are not consumed sufficiently and thus, leads to a lack of EPA. Together with DHA, it has anti-inflammatory effect.
